We are proud to support and encourage the next generation of agricultural leaders. Nominations for the Youth Agricultural Award are now open, so be sure to submit your application today!

Why We Host This Award

If agriculture ceases to exist, life ceases to exist, yet this sector remains severely harmed and has been abandoned to the elderly and the uneducated.

Youth are the food security of the future. However, few young people around the world see a future in agriculture. Youths face numerous challenges when attempting to earn a living. Access to land is a major issue that makes it difficult for young people to start a farm. Youth frequently lack access to credit and many other agriculturally productive resources.

Even if such obstacles can be overcome, isn’t city life much more enjoyable?
The few young people who take the risk of investing in agriculture are discouraged along the way due to a lack of motivation, markets, and access to finance, as well as the fact that those
who practice agriculture are regarded as third-class citizens in society, making it difficult for young farmers to fit in.

While (aging) smallholder farmers in developing countries produce the majority of the world’s food, older farmers are less likely to adopt the new technologies required to sustainably increase agricultural productivity and, ultimately, feed the world’s growing population while protecting the environment. As a result, we must re-engage youth in agriculture. Is this possible?
This can be accomplished by making agriculture more appealing to young people and allowing them to see a future in agriculture. To accomplish this, current youths involved in this sector must be recognized and motivated.

Our Mission

Changing the Narratives

We want to change the narrative and stereotypes about agriculture. Agriculture has traditionally been regarded as a job for the unemployed, the elderly, and those living in villages. We are introducing a new concept: Agriculture is a sustainable and cleaner way to achieve financial freedom while protecting the environment.
